I've got to write it down

Due to the goading of a friend who recently and lovingly reacquainted himself with Gunpei Yokoi’s Viewmaster From Hell, today I’ve finally taken the plunge and purchased a Virtual Boy.

With NESTER’S FUNKY BOWLING. And SOME OTHER GAMES. And THE PLUG.

One of the better eBay impulses I’ve acted on, I hope! My sole experience with the system has been playing Nester’s Funky Bowling  at Toys R Us a time or two during the system’s brief lifespan. I’ve always sort of regretted not picking one up when they were being liquidated for $30 or so, as it’s the only completely unique Nintendo system I never owned. The library is small, and (before the 3DS was announced at least) the nature of the beast means that ports of even the few excellent games were extremely unlikely to ever become manifest, making the system something of a collectible.

I’m excited.

And thus ends my mid-May Metal Gear Marathon, and the month of May for that matter. All I have left now is the Game Boy Color game (until I get a PS3 or PSP, or decide to find Snake’s Revenge for the NES.) Oh, and Twin Snakes if I feel like it. And VR Missions. And Snake vs. Monkey.

I was ranked “Panther,” which is meaningless without some ranking chart but certainly sounds like the most badass rank I’ve achieved in any of the games so far. I think at the end of MGS2 I was some sort of plankton.
